IMPERIALISM PROJECT What were the causes for Imperialism? Imperialism started because the more wealthy countries try to take raw resources from the lesser countries, such as gold, copper, spices, tea, minerals, gems, and many others. Economical motives included the desire to make money, to expand and control foreign trade, to create new markets for products, to acquire raw materials and cheap labor, to compete for investments and resources, and to export industrial technology and transportation methods. Political motives were based on a nation's desire to gain power, to compete with other European countries, to expand territory, to exercise military force, to gain prestige by winning colonies, and to boost national pride and security. Religious motives included the desire to spread Christianity, to protect European missionaries in other lands, to spread European values and moral beliefs, to educate peoples of other cultures, and to end slave trade in Africa. Finally exploratory motives were based on the desire to explore "unknown" or uncharted territory, to conduct scientific research, to conduct medical searches for the causes and treatment of diseases, to go on an adventure, and to investigate "unknown" lands and cultures.
The different views on Imperialsm Eropeans thought they were doing Africa a favor by civilizing them. They also thought that the africans needed to be worked hard to become civilized and that is why they worked them so hard. Also they worked them so hard because they wanted what was in the country faster such as gold, copper, spices, tea, gems, and many others. On the other hand Africans thought that they were ruining there countries and making them work too much. Killing some of them from either working them too hard or just murdering them. Also they were mad at the Europeans for taking their raw minerals. So understandingly the Africans didnt like the Europens imperializing them.
Consequences and lasting effects
The consequences of imperialism were that eventually the africans fought back. Also since the europeans imperialized Africa there isn't as many raw minerals in Africa. Obviously one of the long lasting effects from imperialism is that there isn't as many raw minerals in Africa as i previously stated. Also Africans lost a lot of their culture and now live more along the lines of what europeans call civilized. On the other hand it left Africans with more jobs and increased their economy.
